In response to 91Warrior357, the YFZ is definitely NOT a race-ready bike. And it is quite durable, not sure why he's saying it isn't. The YFZ is a MX/racing bike, but if you took it to a track you would get smoked. The top 3 race ready bikes are probably 1) any KTM, 2) Can am DS450X, 3) Suzuki LTR (only because it is a lot lower and wider than the YFZ). The Renegade 500 is one hell of a bike, I love can am (dad owns one) but it is definitely not a sport ATV. It's a LOT sportier than a Wolvy 450, but not nearly so much as a YFZ. It also costs a lot more than a Wolverine or a YFZ. And again with this durability thing, WTH? Can Am makes some of the best, most durable bikes in the industry. And they all come standard with a 3 year warranty.
And if you wanted a sport quad, why would you not get a YFZ but get a raptor instead? Unless your really heavy a YFZ would do fine. That's why they made big bore sport ATVs, mainly for heavy people who used to bog down 450s (or at least this is what I have been told).
Look, IMO, just get the YFZ. I know you want to ride in the winter, just like I do on my LTR, and you should be fine. We had a few inches today, took the LTR up and down the driveway at my farm without a problem. If it gets too deep, either just wait it out I guess or maybe you should get some snow tires. I might get some snow tires just in case this winter, but I will probably try and ride as much as possible this winter.

Come on Canadian I know I am big but not by any means huge LOL You need to give credit where credit is due and the Raptor deserves allot more credit than most give it. Granted any 450 will take it on the track but no 450 can do everything as easy as the 700 and still have a low maintnence too boot. If you want a easy to ride machine and to have power for ANY situation the Raptor wins hands down!

That's true, I'm not saying that a Raptor is a great, well engineered machine, as is any big bore sport ATV (Can Am DS650!!), but they just seem to be more designed for someone a little bit heavier/larger. The way that 450's go fast is by being light, and shifting, and having a light rider. A 700 Raptor is a heavier machine, and as such it makes more power, and it makes it's power through having a big engine, and as a result a lot of bigger guys go to a big bore sport quad so that their slight weight disadvantage on a 450 won't be present on a big bore.
I'm not trying to bash it, it's just that I think that a YFZ at a great price should do fine.

It all good my only point is as good as the 450's are the 700 is much easier to live with day to day as it is sooted for anything you throw at it.
I sure do like the new YFZ 450R cant wait to thow a leg over one to give it a try! Hope its every bit as good as its brother. I am sure it wont dissapoint!

Sounds like someone forgot the Yfz 450r which is a race ready bike,efi,50 inch wide.In fact it just won it's first race talk to dodge57

That's true, forgot about the YFZ 450R. But I would still rank it tied with 3rd. KTM, IMO, makes the best race ready bikes. Better than Yamaha, Suzuki, Can Am, whatever. But I still put Can Am's bikes ahead of Suzuki's LTR and Yamaha's LTR. They just have more standard race ready features.
But the Suzuki LTR and the YFZ 450R are both pretty equal.... both have EFI and a 450cc engine, and are 50 inches wide. When I was talking about the YFZ, I was just talking about the regular one, that is carbed and not 50 inches wide.

So I was just reading on another forum that the YFZ450 motors will randomly blow and they are not very reliable. Is there any truth to this or is it these guys are probably throttling the crap out of them without oil or something.
Pro Rider
All of the modern 450s are great machines. As long as you keep up on oil changes and keep a clean filter, and the valves adjusted, the motor will last a long time. If you are a guy who is always running WOT, the chances of blowing your motor are greater.

One thing to consider....if you are mostly a north woods rider (but don't quite need 4wd), maybe none of the 450's are a good choice??? The better trail quads (and the best all-arounders!), are the Honda 400EX, Suzuki Z400 (completely redesigned for 08), and the Raptor 700.
Beware of dealers that want to sell you what they have on the floor, and ignore what you real needs are. That is what forums are for....we will cut past the dealer BS for you....

....we will cut past the dealer BS for you.... haha thanks thats exactly what I came here for. I will ride in the woods. But I will be living in the country with mostly wide open fields and dirt roads as well as a few woods trails. So I'll probably want something with a bit of ***** for when I'm just tearing through a field or down an endless dirt road. Plus with the research I have done the YFZ has a lower center of gravity than the Raptor and I am a light guy at 5'7" and 164 lbs. So my size seems like it would be better suited for the 450 (thats in my head you all know much more than I thats why I came here).
