Serious question, YZ450 or Wolverine 450
Look I am currently in the Army and getting ready to get out. I need a hobby so I have decided to buy a quad. I haven't rode that much in the last 10 yrs. I did ride a bit when I was younger, I am 25 now. My question is that I have been ready to buy a Wolverine 450 but the dealership just offered me a YFZ450 for about 300 more bucks than the Wolverine. I am from Michigan and have family up in Baldwin so i will be riding there a lot, as well as making my way to Silver Lake multiple times a year to hit the dunes a bit. I live on relatively flat farmland. Do you think that it would be better to pick up the YFZ450 over the wolverine in case I eventually get bored with the speed? Or should I just get the Wolverine and have no worries about ever getting stuck on the trails. Any opinions are more than welcome!

Sounds to me like you want something fast like the 450 but need a 4x4 I would realy cosider looking at a Can-am Rengade 800 as it would fill both of those needs. Ya I know a Yamaha guy reccomending a Can-am LOL JMO

I dunno if I would recommend hopping on a YFZ if you havent rode in the last 10 years. Maybe you should go out and buy a used TRX90 or something, just to lean to ride a little bit, ride it for 1/2 a year, and then see if you would be able to get by with a 2-wheel drive sport ATV compared to just a utility ATV with different suspension and different plastics.

The YFZ will be way more fun! The Wolv attempts to be a hybrid between a sport and ute, but falls a bit short and ends up being not much more than a warmed over utility (the old 350 Wolverine was much better!)
So, if you can get by without 4wd, get the YFZ and you will have a blast. If you must have 4wd (but don't need the capabilities of a full-on ute), then the Wolverine should do the trick.
One note...I ride with a Wolverine 450. Guy got it for his wife, because she doesn't want to shift and he figures if she gets into trouble at least she will have 4wd. Frankly, my Rancher 420 is a way better machine!

oh alright no worries gleandogg, just thought that you hadn't rode at ALL for over 10 years, if that had been the case, the YFZ would have been as safe as lying down on railroad tracks!
But yeah, if you have some experience the YFZ would be a great quad for you. You should be able to ride it in snow also (if you want to), if you get the proper tires. I just got my LTR, I'm in Ontario, and I'm hoping to do some riding this winter.

Haha yeah being from Michigan, I will want to ride some in the snow. That was one of the bigger reasons for wanting the 4wd. I need to be able to make this money well spent and enjoy it year round! I need to have some kind of constructive hobby that keeps me active and outside.

both yfz and wolverine are nice bikes but the yfz is a race ready bike and are not very durable compared to other 4 strokes although it would be a blast in dunes, in my opinion i think you need a scrambler 500 or maybe a can am renegade 500 the 500 is actually very fast and has bout the same features as the 800 and the 500s will still do 70mph which is very good for a bike that size, but if your like me and you dont wana get something that your unsure of it being durable then the polaris might be the better choice im not sure if the can ams are durable. i think if you make your mind up on whether u want a 4wd utility or a sport quadit will be easier for me to help, its hard to get both combined and it still have good quality and durability. but my final choice would be if you want a sport quad get a raptor 700 or z400 or if you want a utility get a yamaha grizzly 550 or 700
