req buying advice: need reliable, affordable, fun quads for family of 4

The DS650 is a big quad for really big guys, and that makes it handle a bit clumsy compared to the regular size machines (especially in more technical terrain). 200 pounds isn't that big....why needlessly handicap yourself!

The DS is a big quad for all people but even better for big guys. It rides like a dream and loves the desert. I wouldn't call it a handicap. My DS will walk all over my Z400 in every situation. I know the difference between a big quad and a smaller quad and the DS is all around better for Arizona desert riding and most other riding. Not clumsy at all. So b8b the only way to find out is ride a few of these quads and make your mind up afterwords. Best way to do it IMO.

In a straight line drag race sure, but you put in a few tight turns and the big high centered DS is at a disadvantage. If all you want to do is go to some sand pile and drag race then OK, but there are plenty of trails out there in the desert (some of them fairly technical) where you want to be on a machine that is trail competent.
The great desert quads are the great trail quads....with some modificaions.

High centered? 50" wide stock, it's the most stable sport quad made. Either way I'm not gonna argue with you, I'm just suggesting a great quad for the man asking.

The DS, Kawi 700, and Honda XX are all examples of specialized machines, that are not the best choices for the average rider!
