I would also avoid a 450 on his budge, due to the fact that if you find a 450 for that price It's probably been raced, HARD.

On a 400 he still wouldn't be able to smoke his friend.

This is one of few places where the the DS650 and Raptor 660 would excel - BIG LARGE trails, where tight turns and their tippiness don't really matter.

Well a if you can get a Z400 for that much go ahead! You just won't be able to beat your friend on the 450R... you will be able to keep up with him though.

I currently have a 2002 400 ex(honda) .It is a decent quad, VERY reliable, fairly fun,but not very fast top end. I think right around 50 mph. I doudt you'll be able to keep up on a long straight , but in trails you should do ok. Mine doesnt have reverse, but it is light enough where manual reverse itn's really a problem. I think the suz z400 would be better(faster), but i'm not real sure about reliability. I will be selling my 400 for around 2200as long as the bank will let me borrow some so i can get a new one.

Great choice in the Z with the proper mods and rider you can keep up with the 450's. Doug Gust proved this for two years aboard one before the R450 came out. Reliabilty on the Z is as good as any in a sweet handling everday PKG. Good luck with your purchase!

I'd go with a Z over a predator... just is a great overall package... and there are lots of mods out there to make it KILL your friend's 450R.

I found a 2001 raptor 660 but I wonder if its too big for first sport atv...if not that's probably what I will get.
