I found this a 2001 Sportsman 500 HO locally on craigslist, it has 2,432 miles on it. The guy is asking 2,650 for it. Is that a good deal? I tried to get him down to 2,200, but he said the lowest he would come is 2,500!

 

It sounds fair. I would ask to let him let you take it to a dealer to have it checked out or get it checked out by someone who is familiar with them.

It looks decent for its age, but I would still take a real close look at the mechanicals.

 

I was in the same position as you a couple months ago and bought a 2002 Sportsman 500. It was a bit tired but I did it anyways. Anyways, it overheated and had other issues from day one. I traded it in for my Honda. I would stay clear of an older Polaris Sportsman unless you are really knoledgeable about fixing them.
