The Honda will probably be a quicker and more agile quad than the Bayou. The Bayou is more of a pure utility ATV while the Honda 250 falls more into the sport/utility class. I have seen quite a few posts from younger 220 owners looking for ways to get more power and speed. Still, you might see this more as a positive by encouraging him to take it easy.

I own both a '97 Bayou 220 and '92 Honda TRX300 and consider the Kawasaki to be as good a value (if not better) than the Honda when it comes to reliabilty.

I started off on a 220 and I'm still on it 11 years later. It's been a really great machine and I would recommend it, but it does lack in a few departments when compared to the Honda. The bayou doesn't have the suspension that the Honda does or the true sporty feel, but with such a price difference you could add a pipe to the 220. Over all I think they are both great machines, and they both will last the test of time.

RIFLEMAN,
I JUST BOUGHT A RECON FOR MY WIFE AND A RANCHER FOR MYSELF. I KNEW THAT I WAS GOING TO GET THE RANCHER SO FOR HER WE DROVE THE FOLLOWING. BAYOU 220, TRAILBOSS 325, BEARTRACKER 250, & EVEN THE SUZUKI 250. I, AND I THINK MANY OTHERS WOULD AGREE THAT THE RECON IS BEST BUY HERE. THE BAYOU WAS NICE, KIND OF DOGGIE ON PICKUP AND NOT AS SPORTY. THE TRAILBOSS TOTALY TURNED ME OFF EXCEPT FOR IT BEING FULLY AUTOMATIC. THE SUZUKI WAS ON THE SAME LINE AS THE BAYOU. AND THE BEARTRACKER WAS SECOND TO THE RECON. THE RECON IS SPORTY AND VERY RESPONSIVE BUT ALSO WITH SOME NICE UTILITY ASPECTS. CANT SAY ENOUGH ABOUT IT. SO BOIL IT ALL DOWN AND GET ALL THE OPINIONS YOU CAN. I DID EXTENSIVE REASERCH ON ALL THESE MODELS AND IF YOU DO THE SAME YOUR SON WILL PROBABLY DRIVING A HONDA IN THE VERY NEAR FUTURE(LUCKY KID)I AM ANXIUOS TO HERE THE OUTCOME. GOODLUCK

i bought the beartracker and it is a pretty nice machine. i have since turned it over to my wife and have purchased the 4x4 kodiak for myself, but the beartracker is a sweet ride. i would recommend it especially for your son. it's a great starter machine. good luck with your decision. any quad is better than no quad.
