Honda Rancher 2x4 vs Wolverine 450 4x4
#1
Rancher 2x4 vs Wolverine 4x4 doing mostly trail riding, occasional dune trips. I like what I've heard about the Wolverine, everything but the CVT. I Don't think I will use the 4X4 option much, so the Rancher 2x4 is a possibility. I also like the Honda's manual/auto clutch, price and reliability. What do you think of the Ranchers Suspension? What would you do?

First...both of these will be absolutely terrible duners, so don't expect to much from them in those conditions!!!
I owned a 2wd Rancher 350, and it performed almost as well as a sport quad. The new 420 should be even sweeter! The trouble with 4wd is that it puts the extra weight over the front axle where it does the most harm, and that is what makes the 2wd handle so much better.
But....if you truely don't need 4wd, why not a sport quad???? Both these machines weigh 100+ pounds more than a heavy sport quad. Why saddle yourself with that extra weight and decreased performance???

Where do you live that sport ATVs cost more? ? 4x4 cost cost more then Sport ATVs around here, probably do to having a heck off alot more mechanical parts and steel in them.

I was in the same situation back in 07....so I went with the 07 Yamaha Wolverine 350 auto.....I got it for $3,600 OTD in Los Angeles.
The bike is easy to ride...cheaper than honda....just as reliable....auto...and the safest quad out there in my opinion. The cons are it's air cooled and has a carb.....and although it looks like a sport bike...it is a utility.....

For $5,000 you can easily find a used Honda TRX400 or a Suzuki Z400 * Both sporty and reliable bikes that will do dunes and trails. Shoot, for $5,000 and a little searching, you should be able to find a 400 for you and a 250 for the wife.
