Used ATV under 5k
I am looking for a used atv for 5k or less. I am 6ft and 200lbs. Need it for deer hunting and trial riding in mountain terrain. Won't be mudding or in a lot of water.
I haven't owned an atv in about 10yrs. I rode my dads 06 grizzly the other day and all I can say is WOW! The power was great and the auto trans was smooth and very responsive. I was impressed how far ATV's have come in the last 10yrs. However, it did have the (gas bubbling, vapor lock, and sputtering issue after about 3.5 hours). Funny thing is that my Father-in-law was riding his 06 grizzly 660 with us and his did the exact same think at the exact time. I have researched this issue and understand that there is a fix.
Back to the question. I know I can get a used 660 for 5k or less. But would there be any better choices. I would like to have a big bore, not that I need but they sure are fun. Have also considered the king quad 750, and sportsman. What's the best bang for my buck?

Best bang for the buck is usually the Suzuki King Quad 750. Price to features ratio is very good. Sporstman is a great all around quad also with the most comfortable ride out there and good on board storage options. You can probably get a used 700 or 800 for your price. CanAms make about the best power per cc in each class they are in but are usually pretty pricey. They have a weak frame in my mind. You can buy aftermarket frame mods for around $100 that help that situation. If not doing a lot of mud check out a Honda Rincon. Not best power or ground clearance but super reliable. Only gripe I have is the front end doesn't fully lock like every other quad maker's ATVs do.

for 5k, i would definitely check out the dealers for a new atv. there are bound to be left-over last years models going for a good price. for instance, a polaris sportsman 500 MSRP is $6k for a 2011 model. i bet with some looking you could find one , maybe a new 09 or 10 model, for 5k or less. good luck!

Hey all,
new poster awesome site. I am looking to buy a used ATV under the same parameters as the OP. I am in canada but willing to drive to NY to pick up if the deal is right.
My question is, I see you guys talking about some preety good deals, could you point me in the right direction to finding these deals?

Also, I was looking on ebay and found a company call East coast connections out of NY that sells wholesale used ATV's (off auction I would imagine). there prices are awesome so I was also wondering if anyone has had any dealings with this company?
Thanks for the info. So in your opinion is craigslist the way to go?
