I know there are tons of posts like mine but quite frankly I'm too lazy to sift through them all on my phone...anyways I'm looking for an Atv and I'm not real sure where to start. It more than likely will be used, preferably automatic,has to be good on decent size hills/slopes(quite a bit of underbrush)mainly used for dragging logs(3' or less in diameter), possibly plowing snow and food plots and I don't care if it doesn't go above 55 mph. I'm not looking for the most expensive BA four wheeler that money can buy, just something that will last a few years until I can afford to get that BA top of line Atv. Any suggestions? Thanks for your time and I'm looking forward to your replies!

 

How much riding have you done? Also it's good to know your general size. Some of the bigger machines like the Polaris Sportsman are heavy quads where if you're really light you might not have much influence on the machine throwing your weight around. For what you are asking it to do a 4x4 is the way to go. I'd recommend a Polaris Sportsman 500 as a good all around machine with a comfortable ride. Super reliable engine. Honda is a good quad if you're not going to be on steep rocky off camber hill climbs or in deep mud or snow. Doesn't have a way to fully lock the front end. Yamaha Grizzly 350, 450, and 550 and Suzuki King Quad 450, 550 are also great machines. Can-Am Outlander 500 is a good machine also.

 

I rode quite a bit when I was younger but mainly on trails so I never put a fourwheeler to the test. I weigh 120 and stand about 5'6". I'm definitely liking the way the Polaris sounds with a super reliable engine. Thank you very much for your reccomendations!

 

That's not to detract from the other makers. They have good machines too. The smaller Yamahas also have a more mid-sized frame as does the Honda's. If you can, take each for a test ride. See which one is more suited to you. I know the Sportsman line has some of the best towing and toting numbers. Especially the Sportsman X2. It has a dumpbox on the back that also converts to a passenger seat if you have someone along with you. The toughest work related machine of the 4-wheelers.

 

For an all around work horse that can still be fun to ride and is rock solid in build meaning very proven its hard to beat the Honda Forman. (Cant beleive I just recommended a Honda LOL) Not saying that the others are not good as well, just saying Honda is KNOWN for being very bullet proof.

 

honestly i am a true honda and yamaha guy so i would tell you to look into a honda they have a nice ride can work all day and the most reliable engine in the industry in my opinion

 

You might also want to consider a machine with power steering. My daughter is about your size and she has an easier time on my machine which has power steering vs hers which is half the displacement but no power steering.

 

I would look at a used Kawasaki Prarie 300 or 360.

 

eh, if youre looking for an automatic, definitely gotta go with polaris! we were trying to get my sister a fourwheeler since i had one and she got to drive mine and my friends. i have a sportsman 500 HO and he had the rancer at 400 which has the ES or auto. she liked the way that the sportsman handled alot better, and plus...i have seen many people struggling with ES because the shifter stops working for whatever reason and then they cant even turn the sucker on! i would definitely recommend polaris sportsman!
