Default Can-am Outlander or Honda Rancher

iv had a honda rancher in my past it was a 420 like i mentions it was great and awesome fourwheeler rather speedy to top was about 55ish id say but due to lack of service and oil changing and deep deep water i ruined a great machine .....now i miss it and im wanting another one...iv done priced 3 of them and im ready to decide but i want more input from people with experience of the outlander so i guess im wondering if there is better than my old rancher (RIP) .......please only answer if you have experience or no alot about it...im wondering the top speed for the outlander can am 400 and 500 and the differences...what i like and notice is can-am has gauges and anti theft (unlike my rancher which was stolen but i recoverd it 4 days later ) (here is my biggest question) ...the can am 400 is 6,800 and 500 is 7,800 so im really wondering what is the 1000 dollar difference in the 2 machines but my downside to can am is i dislike all the plastic....now the rancher im lookin at is 6,500 so im thinkin its gonna be inbetween the rancher and 400 ....unless theres a huge upgrade and speed difference in the 400 and 500.......sorry for the long info

The 400 cc Can-Am Rotax engine in the 2013 has 32 HP, the 500 cc has 46. I can tell you from riding my son's Renegade 500 that it has plenty of power. It will get up over 60 mph, has better ground clearance than the Rancher and more convenience features. A front end that locks up when needed opposed to the Honda limited slip front. More storage too. My understanding of the Foreman is that it is a solid axle. The Can-Ams use a independent rear suspension with trailing arms. Very comfortable ride. Second only to Polaris in ride comfort in my opinion. Another plus to owning a Can-Am is their security key. The key has a transponder like many modern cars. If you don't have the key you can't start it. They call it DESS. I think it's Digital Encoded Security System or something like that. Random thoughts. Hope this helps you. If you can afford the XT package of an Outlander it gives you tons of add ons for a good price. For $1100 more you get a 3000 lb. winch, front and rear bumpers, and power steering. I never thought I'd like it as much as I do.

Yea im loving the fact that it has the security system in it (since mine was stolen before) thats a big plus ....so what do you think top speed for the 400 would be about 50? and im defintley leaning towards can-am because iv heard they were just about the best but iv never owned one or drove one so im kinda sketchy about it whereas the rancher iv had for 3 years....and i was looking at a foreman but iv heard they are a little slow

This is just a guess but I would think the Outlander 400 top speed is about 52-55. The 500 more in the 60-65 mph. I've never found enough room to get up to my 650s top speed yet. It's probably around 68 or so. I had a Polaris Sportsman X2 500 and that was about 55 mph for a top speed in a heavier machine than the Outlander 500. Just some comparisons.

Im not too much focused on speed but whenever me and all my friends ride i cant stand anyone to be faster than me!....my 420 rancher topped out lil over 55 but a 400 suzuki outran me doesnt make since to me like it had to top out at atleast 60........but if i had the money id def. get the outlander x mr with tires rims and everything you could ask for but i dont quite have enough credit and im 19 nd my dad would say its ridiculous to pay that much for one and wouldnt co sign for me so ill have to stick around a7000 limit as the outlander 400 or 500

It's a good starting point. My son bought his first quad around when he was 17. It was a Polaris ATP 500. Sold that and bought the Renegade 500 a couple years later. He loves the Renegade. Nimble, light, and still has 4wd with a high and low range gearbox. The Outlander is more of a utility machine with racks and more storage. My own thought is if you can swing the 500 to go for it. Very nice machine with best power to weight ratio of any 500 class utility machine.

heres another suggestion as you said the XT is a great package for a little bit more....the price of the can-am xt is 7,800 same as the regular can-am outlander 500 which brings me back to the same question what could possibly be a 1000 dollar difference or a winch front and rear bumper and tires difference the more im lookin the more i want the 400
