I have two Chinese quads. I run them thru the exact same conditions. The one with 4 ply tires has many small punctures in all the tires. Seems the rubber is so soft small twigs and branches are poking holes everywhere leaving tiny branches pieces in the tires. While the other has 2 ply tires not even one hole. The 4 ply with the holes I purchased new not too long a go. What gives? Is it the Nylon? Can some one recommend me a set of tires which can perform as well as the 2 ply ones. I have seen these 6 ply but need to be sure they will hold up. Here are some pics of the 2ply, 4ply and the ones I have been thinking about. Ty
Interesting stuff about compounds. Is it me or do tyres seem to get sidewall cracks at two or three years old now whereas 30 year old ones don't. Regarding fitting tubes, we go for this as a last resort, as a thorn in a tubed tyre results in instant deflation. One in a tubeless usually results in a slow puncture. Also you need to be absolutely sure, certain, positive, any thorns etc, are out of the tyre before fitting a tube, or it will be flat next day. We go for plugs (snot sticks) in tubeless tyres if possible. They work surprisingly well and don't have the problems outlined above. For some reason I have had worse results with proper "tubeless repair inserts" (mushrooms) and they need the tyre off the rim, to fit.
