Quad Selection For Bigger Guy

Similar, but also very different. The 660 has a completely different motor, although it too makes good low end torque yet has enough top end to keep up. I find the 700 to be a bit tall compared to my 450(and 250R.) The 660 chassis has a higher center of gravity and while it handles better than most utes, it is a bit tippy vs most sport quads. The 700 shares a-arms, swingarm, and in many cases shocks with the YFZ. The 660 suspension isn't as sophisticated(original YFZ front shocks are a popular upgrade requiring just a little grinding to fit though.) The 660 has twin carbs vs fuel injection on the 700.
I like the 660, but it had some shortcomings. Many if these were addressed and corrected with the 700. A 660 is a good big bore on a budget. With some upgrades they make a very sweet ride. Do your research on them if you are thinking of going this route. Even better would be to ride an example of each if you can.

A little, yes. Adding wider axle and arms helps a lot. You could use cheaper hub extensions also, but don't jump with them on. If you do end up buying one, ride it for a bit first. There are a lot of 660s out there that have been ridden for years at stock width having no issues. For a straight up dune machine, I would be looking to get wider and maybe upgrade shocks as budget allows.

The only 660 raptor to stay clear of is the 2001 it had a transmission issue that Yamaha quickly corrected.
The 660 has almost the same power as the 700 (686cc) the 660cc is rated at 42hp while the 686 is 45hp.
Here are there side by side specs. 2009 Yamaha Raptor 700R ATVs
The 700 is wider and lower but being a big guy you may want the taller 660 to stretch the legs. The 660 also has a larger gas tank which is always nice.
The 660 is a bulletproof motor.
