Yamaha makes the wolverine which is a sporty 4x4 automatic I believe. Polaris makes the 2stroke scrambler 4x4 auto but sport polaris in water and mud aren't that good. I've seen outlaws, preds, and scramblers all shut down after a little puddle, all these are mate from polaris btw😉. But yeah go with the 400, kfx400 and ltz400 are the same exact thing almost.

No way will you be satisfied with a 400 coming off a hopped up 450 unless you are no longer looking for speed. From what I have seen, z400s aren't the most reliable bikes out there. Nowhere near the legendary status that the ex has.
You can make a 400 faster but then the reliability aspect of a 400 goes out the window.
If you want a reliable sport atv, that comes fast from the factory then a 700xx or raptor 700 will be about the only choices. Wayne Matlock and his race team were getting 8000 miles out of their bottom ends and that was on race motors at extreme conditions. They ran Baja 4 years straight on a XX and I believe they won every year from 08-11.

I agree with you Hondar24 on the speed part, defiantly go with the raptor 700 or 700xx if you want the power, however i disagree with the z400 statement on reliability

A 400 is reliable, he was thinking of a getting 400ex, I'm saying that Honda has been using the same motor since the 80s while the other 400cc motors out there are much more advanced and have much more power. I don't believe he's going to be racing bajas since he said trail riding only. The 700s are good I agree with that. They are just more race specified and run hotter than others.

The Z is very reliable, I could have worded that better. I wouldn't say it's anymore reliable than the 700s though . And when you start touching the motor to make it keep up with the big boys, you lose all that

x2 and i would even say my raptor 700 is a little more reliable because for the simple reason you dont have to screw with a carb

disagree w/ the 700xx Honda, worst bumpsteer of any bike I`ve owned, and had to change the front sprocket to a 13 tooth for trail riding around here. still could kill it in a lot of bad situations. the motor is awful easy to kill at low speed to me !
