Putting in a SW Terra 35 and I've decided the crimp I'm looking at here isn't something I can reproduce so I need to figure out who to take this wire to get the end put back on after I get it shortened to where I need it. Never having delt with wires this big I have no idea who I could go to just locally to get this done. What kind of (electrical?) business would deal with stuff like this?

When I had a wire that was too long I didn't cut it and put a new connector on it. I just made a loop in the cable and zip tied it to itself.

 

Yeah that was my original idea with the same intentions of future flexibility. I might be short sighted here but having given in to my ADD tendencies I've decided on a neat install. If I need to make changes I'm guessing it wouldn't be too expensive to just reproduce the wires and ends.

Any advice on how to heat this wire end so I can get some solder in there but avoid melting the plastic? I'm thinking it's gonna take a fair amount of heat to get the solder to flow through the middle part of that cable. Advice I've gotten so far is to put the end on and heat at the base of the O close to where it spans out to wrap around the wire.

 

I don't see how you can get that big of a wire hot enough to solder without melting the plastic. You'll likely need a torch because I don't think a soldering iron will heat it it up enough. I could be wrong though. I never soldered anything that big.

 

Try a bench vise or get a hydraulic wire crimper from harbor freight --
