Default Buying first quad

I'm looking for something with selectable 2x4 to 4x4. My budget is only about 1500 to 1800. And possibly with a manual transmission with clutch. Any input is appreciated.

I'm a big fan of the older Arctic Cats. 400's and 500's had bulletproof Suzuki motors. I have a 2002 AC 400 for sale in the "Marketplace forum" . The FIS models handle better than the solid rear axle models, both are very ruggedly made. Hondas are excellent, too. My friends with Yamahas and Kawasakis also seem to have good luck.

I am looking at early 2000s Yamaha kodiak and a few Suzuki eigers. Any opinions on the two? I considered the artic cats because of the manual transmission

Id check out a 2002 or newer yamaha big bear 400 4x4. 2002 and on had selectible 4x4. Its auto clutch with foot shift. Super tough and reliable. Not the fastest atv but torquey on low end.

You said manual. Are you thinking a sporty quad or just an in between quad like a utility with a clutch?
