Which is better for ATV's independent rear suspension or the mono-shock system with a swingarm?

hey ice,
i think it would have alot to due to what kind of riding you are doing. if you run on wide open trails that are fairly dry, and smooth. if you climb alot of hills, and want to go through sand alot, then the solid rear axle is probibally best. now, if you go through alot of wooded areas, needing ground clearance, and want a smoother ride, as well as better traction in the deep mud, rutted areas, then the independant suspencion is probibally best. i live in michigan, and we have alot more wooded, off camber, rutted, muddier areas than we do wide open, sandy, smoother, off camber areas, so i went with the 660 grizzly. it is alot easier to cover 200 miles in a day when your ride is plush, and that also helped in my desition. good luck on what you choose. hope i helped out a little.

Mich660Griz makes alot of good points and the only thing I would add is that a solid axle gives a bit of a sportier ride than IRS. You can slide the rear end easier with the axle.
