I have always bought new atvs. A year ago I had to sell my 400ex. I loved it.( It took me 4 atv before I was happy with this one) I have the chance to get another coming up soon, and I want to find one that I will be happy with off the bat. I really like the ds650, or baja version, but then again they are one of the most expensive out there. How are they when you buy them used? I have my eye on a 2000 right now for about $5000.00 good deal or not? Is there any know defects of the 2000 DS650? This will take more time to save for though. The other atv i am looking at is a banshee, 1999 or 2000 used. Is a two stroke engine (top end) going to give me more problems? What is average life of a two stoke top end? This is my only draw back to looking at the banshee. I have riden with people who have them and like the speed, but I know they can't compare in handling to a ds650. Any comments would be great
thanks chris

Well I am sort of 2 stroke biased, so I would say go for the banshee. Despite the rumors, a 2 stroke is going to last just as long as a 4 stroke if taken care of. Another upside to the Banshee over the DS is when it comes time to mod the motor, you will be spending less money, even with having to buy 2 of everything. I've never ridden a DS but I think that Banshee's have very good handling. To me, the only drawback to owning a 2 stroke is that you have to mix the gas and oil, but that is still very easy.

I have heard the Baja version is worth the money.
