Well I was all set to get a ds 650 then the new edition of dirtwheels came and there was the fx 400. Wow! It has just as much power, weighs 100 pounds less, and is cheaper. Is there any reason I should still consider the ds? I think Bombardier will have a lot of work to do to be compettive with Cannondale. Maybe on the ds an aluminum frame and swingarm to get weight down? Also more power, I don't think the ds is using anywhere close to the most h.p. out of that motor.

How big are you? If you are above 6ft tall and/or weigh 200+ then the DS650 is for you.

I missed that issue, but I think the fx400 will be the hottest thing going. The DS650 is not getting the rave reviews that everybody expected.

What's the price on the FX400?

Hey Duster,

Finally something we agree on! Latest I heard on pricing was $6,900 or so.

The FX400 seems to be the ticket. I'll probably be riding one when they come out, after an evaluation, of course. Never really considered the DS650 an option. Too heavy, large, High CG, and goofy looking, don't really like the 7000 RPM rev limiter either, especially on a bike that most say is lacking low end power. The DS650 isn't what most expected. I believe that it is probably a good dunes machine, but that's about it.

The Cannondale has a lot going for it, we'll see. Also their MX400 should actually be out really soon, uses the same engine and linkless suspension geometry in the rear. We'll be able to tell a lot after some people start riding that machine.

Which issue of Dirt Wheels are you talking about? My most recent issue is April '00.

Why not, please explain? Never say never. Apparently you haven't learned the first rule of racing, there will always be someone faster.
