Buying a used Quad, Advice anyone.
#1
I have not owned a quad previously, but I enjoy sport quads, i.e. 300ex,400ex,lt250r,mohave. I am a fairly aggressive rider and have ridden those bikes, some exstensively, but have never really had to take care of one. What brands should stay away from/ look for. Any advice on buying a 1988 Mohave 250, for about $2000. This particular bike has been ridden fairly hard, several nice dings in the stock wheels, new tires, good plastic. Thanks for any advice.

I bought a 98 mojave used very little for $2500 last summer (traded this winter for a 400EX). The price on that 1988 mojave seems a bit high, especially if its been ridden hard. Personally, I outgrew the mojave over the summer - even though I piped it, etc. I also like to ride hard (lots of experience before mojave purchase), and the mojave just didn't cut it. I am much happier with the 400EX - you may want to take that route.

Man, I'd love to walk into the local Honda dealer point at my 400ex and say, "Sir, (or madam) I'll take that bike and I'll need a helmet to go with it thanks, where do I sign?" The only real hang up there is the ten years of $150 a month payments. It really isn't a big issue, but I'm married and want to keep it that way.

2k for a 88 mojave is a little steep if you want it try to talk him down a bit. if your looking for a used sport quad use caution! aske every question about oil changes, bearings, motor mods, ect... check the frame for paint flaking off it at the shock mounts, upper and lower A-arms, and swing arm pivot. thats a sing that the frame has been stressed. look at the underside of it to see if theres any big dings on the frame tubes. did he buy it new or how many other people owned it? just think of how you ride a sport quad and multiply that about 4 times to what the quad could have been through.
