Its probably the needle & seat... Its very common for them to go bad..

There is also an O ring on the brass seat that can be bad.

Is it leaking from around the gasket of the bowl, from the tubes that come off of the side of the carb, or the very bottom of the bowl? Each has a different reason why it might leak.

If it's the bottom of the bowl, that is the drain for the bowl. The screw for the drain is either corroded, or not tight enough. I plugged mine up with a short piece of rubber hose that has a nail in it to completely seal it up.

papawheelie ..

yes thats the drain but its also the over flow... when the fuel gets to high from a bad needle and seat issue ... plugging it is a very bad idea ... it has nothing to do with the screw not being tight.

maybe the carbs on the 2000 were different? When I pulled the carb apart, I do not see how the drain at the bottom could also act as an overflow.

nope there the same 99% of carbs are this way ...

there is two holes for fuel to flow out ,but both holes drain out the same nipple on the bottom. one controled by the drain screw and the other open port is down that brass tube. when fuel goes to high from a stuck or leaky float it will go over the brass tube and out the bottom nipple..... never plug that tube. the fuel will then go directly into the motor and lock it up or fill the oil full of fuel ... bad deal .....

Thanks for correcting me bartmann.

Oh man, I am an idiot! I can't believe I did not figure that out when taking the bowl off. For all the times I read posts where people just spew incorrect knowledge and I get upset, I rally hate joining that group...

I know it's differrent for every person, but it appears my brain started to fade at age 41. It's all downhill from here....

I worked on a Polaris for a guy once who had plugged the overflow hose with silicone because it was leaking gas....it filled his crankcase to the point the engine would not crank.
