Cams too big???
#1
I just found out that the cams i have are WEB race cams:
425 lift
287 duration
260 duration @ .050"
109 Grind #
Description =Race profile. Must use valve spring kit VC-B03.
Are these too big for my application? I'm planning on running a 11.5:1 CP piston(stk bore), stk valves, MBRP full race exh., ported intake manifold, TM45, K&N clamp-on, RWR CDI.
I ride alot of trails(alot of low speed trails), and drag race.
Would porting the head(keeping stk valves) gain much?
Does anyone have a simmilar setup and run these cams? What kinda power does it make?

by all means port the head since you'll have it off for spring replacement anyway, this will save you another head gasket ($50) down the road if you decide to do it later. the biggest inprovement in porting when leaving stock valves I think is the intake manifold to head fit - the ports need matched to elliminate the mismatch.
I am stock bore, stock valves, 11.5:1, RW A1/A2 cams with web spring kit you mentioned, ported, TM45, carb mount K&N, RW CDI. I totally love my entire set-up, and wouldn't change a thing for my trail riding, and still have plenty extra on top I never touch on the trails for when I go to the dunes. The cams you have should offer a little more on top than mine, and cost you a tiny bit more on the bottom as a trade-off. Since you already got them, try them, if you don't like the grind you can always swap them for something else, but I think you'll like them. The cams I mentioned I have have differnet grinds on the intake than the exhaust, and offer a best of both worlds power band with minimal low end loss, and more on top as well. Its like being between sport and race.
be forwarned - the spring kit you get from web with shim/ubder conversion may require you to have shims custom made. the buckets that came in mine wre thicker than stock, and the thinest shim made was too thick, ut a local machine shop can grind your shims to whatever you need them to be fro cheaper than new cost anyway. but this kit offers much reliability, and you can rev to the moon.

you will be fine, mine is almost a clone of hightowers the power is very good but when you ride in the sand as much as i do the more the power the better but like he said it is great for trail and the power is very useable. you might consider a copper gasket you canreuse them.
