Check my personal page (Posted pic of the cross-member and the head where Jeff and I did some grinding.)
I have to use a small pry bar but, there is enough flex in the head bolts to get it off without removing any of the engine mounts.
So, answer is #3 - Remove some material from the head and some from the cross-member on the frame.
(I pulled mine yesterday )
(It may take a day for the pic to be viewable since I think the mods need to approve new pictures that are posted.)

I say #2.
IMO you dont need the upper motor mount, So cut that bar completly out, just leaving enough for the tank to bolt too. Then you can leave the motor were is and take the head off. PLUS you'll loose like 3lbs by cutting out the top motor mount!
Anyway, it works for me.
