My Ds650 has had a few problems with it since I have bought it and I'm wondering if anyone else has had the same problems.

I ride in the north western part of pennsylvania many trails, creeks, mud, but also alot of dry rideing as well.

First problem was the first day i had my bike the rear bearings burned up and i had to take it back were it sat for 5 days haveing the rear end rebuilt. The shop told me that the bearings were preloaded to high at the manufacture and thats what cause them to burn up. Second problem I am having is that it wont stay in first gear for some reason it pops out of gear all the time. I have talked to the dealer and they are going to address this problem this friday. Third problem and this is one for all ds owners dont over tighten the oil filler cap the rubber seal will pinch and you will loose oil. And when i my bike the dealer told me that there has been a problem wil oil sending units for oil pressure unfortunatly I guess I ended up with one my bike has oil pressure but the lite stays on. I talked to my dealer again and they confirmed this and they told me to go ahead and ride it.

I hit submit buy accident.

anyway I have also had a problem with water in the air cleaner. I have noticed other people haveing the same water problem. And last but not least today my carburator seperated from the rubber between the head and carb sucking air and would not stay running then i saw that it was sucking air and I had to loosen the clamp and refit the rubber to the card and tighten the clamp back up. Anyway I was just wondering if anyone else has had the same problems as I have had in the first week of owning my ds650 and loving it every minute execpt for the down time for my rearend rebuild. Hope to hear from someone soon.

Bomber, I had problems with the transmission "slipping out of gear", but it turned out to be me and my riding boots that were causing it. If your boot taps the shift lever it can downshift easily. This has happened to me because I have heavy, thick riding boots and can't feel the shifter.

Well to answer the first question i have had honda's in the past and im not really impressed with the 400ex as it is the biggest sport bike they make the frames are cheapley made and there to lite on the front end. If your a Wheeleey nut then its the bike for you. I have also owned a cr500 but thats a whole other ball game. Well today (Sunday) I went rideing and something in the tranny went and its makeing a hell of a lot of noise. I am going back to my dealer tommorow and giveing them a altermatum i want a new bike or my money back. This is really starting to **** me off big time first it's the rear end now it's the tranny what's next? I love the bike dont get me wrong the power is great handles like a dream but the problems I am haveing are over whealming. Does anyone out there disagree with what I'm about to do or should I let them fix this problem and keep the bike I have? Also to answer about the jumping out of gear and the boot issue my problem is first gear pushing down on the shifter it pop's out and believe me It's a bitch when you want to start out or need to down shift into first and then you see the neutral lite come on forceing you to hit the shifter down or hold it down wile you let the clutch out. Well any info from other people would be great I dont want to be the only one in the country with a problemmatic ds650.

Bomber, good luck with trying to get a new bike or your money back. If possible try to see if bombardier has an arbitrator that you can discuss your problems with. I had to go this route with chrysler over a defected jeep wrangler and the arbitrators ended up siding with me for most of all my money back. Anyway, sorry to here of all your problems with the DS. I will hold off buying one for now. Please keep every one posted on this situation. Thanks

That's a bitch. Sounds like something didn't get torqued down properly in the gearbox, or something just failed. It happens. Your the first to post any problems with the tranny.

As far as the rear bearings, they sound like they have their story backwards. There was a problem with the rear axle bearing retaining nut beeing lose, not torqued down enough. They came loose, caused a lot of slop, which would cause the bearings to fail. I had this problem, but I caught it before it caused any damage.

Good luck and I hope things turn out. I am the same way with Honda. I have owned them for years. But, the 400EX is just too cheaply built and overpriced. The Banshee is old and I don't like two stroke engines.

I have experienced all the problems with my machine that I've heard discussed here (oil light, bearing failure) I wanted to know if anyone else has a problem getting the bike into third gear? I've tried adjusting the lever to get more leverage with no luck. All the other gears are fine with the exception of third. I'm no small guy (5-10 / 230) and it takes allot to get that thing to go into thrid! Anyone else have this problem?

The way I see it, since the engine and tranny are one unit, the entire motor needs to be replaced. I do not think it is realistic for anyone to repair the transmission, other than the Bombardier motor division. Installing a new motor does not make much sense to me either. I would think Bombardier would want to have the bike shipped back to them in one piece for failure anaylsis. You should get a new bike off the showroom floor "immediately" or as soon as the handling of the issue is agreed upon with Bombardier.

Since we are on the subject, I have the most problems going between first and second gear. Changing the sprockets out only makes it worse because first and second are the whole race. I have always thought something was wierd. Riding and getting familiar with the quirks seems to help. Very rarely I will still miss second. (usually right in an important race)
