Pivot and Axle Bearing service
#1
Just did routine service of all a-arm pivots, shock pivots, swingarm pivot, and axle bearings. All were in very good shape after over 2 years, and all had a little corrosion coming on from all the water I ride in, making my timing just right. If I had waited much longer I would’ve been replacing stuff, but instead all I had to do was clean everything well, scrub the pivots with some solvent and scotchbrite, lubricate and re-install.
I was particularly surprised how well the axle bearings and seals looked. No water or dirt was found in the carrier, still sealed after over 200 hours of ride time, and I ride creeks often and spend quite a bit of time submerged on a regular basis. But it was time for a new lube job, because the old grease was getting thick and nasty. This is why grease zerks are not present on factory carriers – they know new grease on top of old is nowhere near as good as new grease alone, and the best thing to do is clean out the old before applying new. Not knocking anyone who has installed a grease zerk here, new on top old is better than old alone too!
I’m good for another year or two, but I imagine at the next service I’ll be replacing the pivots. I anticipate the bearings to last much longer though, but I wrote the seal and bearing #’s so I can get them from a local bearing house rather than pay dealer prices in the event I should need them unplanned.
Its great man, smooth suspension, absolutely no squeeks, like stealth mode! My shock pivots were sqeeking so loud before that you could hear them on the helmet cam footage!

Cool man, I have to grease my rear shock bushings..... I just put in new front SHOCK bushings and I just replaced axel bearings and seals. I keep the front a arms greased regularly.
