Default Ride review of my rebuilt DS.

I went with the RW 11.5 piston, A1/A2 CAMS, RW 2 stage valve springs and 60% clutch springs for the inside. For
the outside I have a FMF power core 4 slip on, RW CDI, Lectron 46 High Velocity Carb, 46mm ported intake. 22 rear
razr tires, and 14/40 gearing. I run an open airbox with snorkels and lid removed. Filter is a K&N with Outerwear
pre-filter.
Carb review:
Well the carb is a 46 HV. That means that the opening of the carb is from the 48mm regular Lectron. The
needle and core is 48 and it tapers to 46 as it enters the intake. It produces a the air to gather up and create
intake force at the needle. I also have the bleeder circuit for idle and the power jet for W.O.T. It connects to
a Motion Pro ¼ turn twist throttle. The cable was a PAIN in the rear to get setup. You have to manually cut the
length to match. The throttle intake is on the very top of the carb going straight down. Not angled like on the TM
series. I removed the tank plastics and put the cable right between the tank and plastic to make it as curvless as
possible. Then it comes out under the clutch side and over the dash to the twist. It really works well after I
found a good way to route the line. Also on a DYNO the carb produces more HP when the air boot is installed. It
creates a straight line air flow before the carb. I used to run a clamp on with the TM so it was weird to return
to the airbox.
No need to review the rest of the parts as everyone has dealt with them before.
Ride review:
Well it felt good to get back in the saddle. It has been down for almost 2 months. I started off slow and
slowly played with it. It revs up extremely fast, faster then my TM carb ever did. The best part about the carb
is there is latterly ZERO bog or lag anywhere in this carb. I even left it in 2nd gear and just rolled on idle
then went W.O.T. and it just screamed NO bog. Anywhere in the power range it just responds SO fast it’s like fuel
injection.
At first I did not think it was very powerfull, when I opened it up I herd the motor rev but did not feel
the DS took off as fast as it should have. I looked to see if my tires were spinning thinking it might be the
clutch or something and to my joy I saw a 4ft tall ROCK ROOSTER!! It was loosing traction so fast it was just
spinning. I check this in all the gears and sure enough it would fish tail at 50-60 mph and just ROOST. Let off and
the rocks and dust would disappear!!! It was sweet!!!!!!! So it has latterly GOBS of power. I took it down the HWY
(Don’t tell) but it would EASLY lift the front up while in 3rd gear and just opening the throttle. If you yank it
would come up faster.
Now the best part, I decided to open it up in 5th gear to see what it had. I stayed on the gas until I
could feel it pull no more then I looked at the tachometer and it read 9,700 rpms so down left off the gas and just
coasted back down. I looked at the speedometer read 92mph. I looked on the gearing calc to make sure that was
correct and sure enough, 14front sprocket, 22 rear tire, 9750 RPM = 91.9 MPH. It hit the top end in record time!! I
thought something was wrong as it never reved out that fast before. But it did!!!
The DS just SCREAMS!!! It hauls some serious tail! My friend races stock car and his mechanic has a DYNO system. I
will get the DS on the DYNO soon as I get a job!! I lost mine last Monday. Anyways I can’t wait to see the HP and
Torque. This is the BEST upgrade I could have ever done!!!!!

Who else uses the 46 HV on their DS?

9700 RPM?!?...wouldn't you be floating at 9700 rpm?!?

Nice way to break in your engine...

I personnaly don't think it's a better carb, even though I've never tried it or seen it run.

Less bog when tramping from closed throttle to WOT doesn't make a better carb. I've heard of many guys trying them on built DS's (AzSand and some others) and they said it was a poor excuse for a carb compared to the Mikuni TM line. Sure the Mikuni's have some lag without the pump and the springs kill the thumb. But get a twist and A/C pump...tune it right...You will have absolutely NO BOG even from closed throttle (according to most 45 users) to WOT.

Now, I don't mean to diss the lectron 46, because I personally have not tried it or seen any proof that is is better or worse. I'm also very happy that MudStud is 110% satisfied with his new rebuild. I'm just saying this because you seem to be bashing the TM carbs. I know it's your personal opinion, and I respect you for it, but I don't think you should say it is a faster carb until it has been proven by Dyno on the same bike, properly tuned and on the same day. Maybe your TM42 was not properly tuned...I really don't know.

Congrats on the new rebuild. Happy Roosting bud.

Jeff

Not making it sound like anything SpinCycle!!!
I am simply reporting how MY motor works after MY mods..
You dont belive a motor cant spin to 9700?? READ SOME POSTS!!!
It stops producing power around 8500 but it can over spin...
Here is a DIRECT quote

They are designed with titanium retainers and work well with the sport cams listed above. </SPAN><B><FONT face=Arial size=+1><SPAN style="FONT-SIZE: 18px">$184.99 </SPAN></FONT></B><I><FONT face=Arial size=+1><SPAN style="FONT-SIZE: 18px">for complete set."

They are the RW springs...

Yea I know man...I read that many times before...Exactly why I said it would be floating at 9700...

I do not doubt you can reach that RPM, but not safely though.

I truley believe that it will start to win races and will become the #1 carb.. I really think that people use the TM is becauses it what RW sells.. If you like the TM then GOOD keep it.. I can win more races then

OK, I really don't want this to turn in to a b!tch session. Like I said, its my review of my motor and my mods that I wanted to share with everyone.

It's cool Grady.

When it is proven (if ever) to be a better carb than my 45...I will trade it in no questions asked. But until then, I'll stick wit mah bandwagon 45. .

I'm too broke to even afford new tires...how could I get a new carb anyway...

It's 2:07 AM and I haven't slept in over 22 hours and having gone to the gym, and worked a 10 hour shift Im quite tired...So if I'm talking out of my as$, sorry.
