honda 400 report
#1
well got to the dunes early and told little sandman to take the honda out with the dirt tires and play in the sand, he came back shortly and said they really sucked in the sand, and no power, so being the cool dad i said get started on changing the tires, well with a little help he got this done right away. well about a minute goes by and he is back and says the power is worse than the stock machine. i was some what confused so i said let me see it well it takes off about like a suzuki 50 no power whats so ever. so with the help of many fine forum members ( ironrod, duneittilludie, bigslim and several others )we come up with all the jets to jet away. of which none worked. well to make a very frustrating story short, the stock handa carb has a link to pull the slide up up and it was disconnected. well by the end of the day and three more jetting and a tire swap to haulers he was hot on the heals of bigslim, and there was a lot of raptors behind them. it turns out to be a very fun quad i was concerned about the power for him but wish i had put a cam in there plus some porting, it would be very hard running then.

We have three 400ex's and on all three the slide on the stock carb is short of opening to full thottle by about 1/8 in. I don't know if you found this when you connected the cable back to the slide or not but I was pretty shocked to find this. You can readjust the slide to open all the way with the cable and have use of the whole carb.
