After I pondered the statement it made more sense, but I just figured for the amount they charge, the whole thing was chromoly.

Interesting. One manufacter and another race shop both said mild steel was normal at the carrier since it had to flex to tighten it. I believed them since I've can't find information on chromoly tubing over 2.75 inches.
I'll check with my mail order chromoly dealer and a local large metal shop tomorrow.
