Default aluminum frame ds request to build

hey I talked to teixeiratech and they sounded like they would be interested in buildinga frame for the ds but they said they would need to hear more interest from ds owners. I was wondering if anyone think they might be interested to go to there website at http://www.teixeiratech.com/frames.asp and email them about your interest. It would be a great move in making the ds a 400 pound torque monster lol. ~kyle

I think what you'll find is that the first thing people on the consumer side will want to know is weight and durability. I think the topic has come up in general discussion (no manufacturers involved) that an aluminum frame would be nearly as heavy as the steel one once it is made to be equilly durable. A lot of discussion can go on about this, however there is only one way to ever find out.

Maybe a Chromoly Chassis with Aluminum Sub-Frame and an Aluminum Oil Tank would be a better idea. Isnt Chromoly lighter than regular steel & just as strong?

The problem is if you crack your Chrome moly frame you can't reweld it because it will weaken it. Then you will really be mad!

Chromoly tool steel weighs the same as mild steel but its stronger. 1 1/2" .083 wall 4130 chromoly is as strong as 1 1/2" .134 wall mild steel. The weight is lost in wall thickness while retaining the same strength.
Chromoly has nothing to do with aluminum. It is steel with small percentages of chromium and molybdenum added in.
