Default Too much oil on filter

I accidently put too much filter oil on my filter. I noticed my performance was down and checked and then saw oil in my boot to the carb. I was going to take the carb off and clean that. Is there anything else I should do? Will this do any damage? How do you apply oil to the Uni Filter anyway? The inner filter is permanently attached to the inner frame. I tried an environmental oil that does work great but does not come in a spray can. It is almost impossible to squeeze out the extra oil. That is how I found out I had too much oil on the filter.

I always remove the inner spring (if it has one) prior to cleaning, and then after re-oiling I put a rag inside, wrap another rag around the outside, and squeeze all the excess oil out into the rags. After blotting out all the excess oil, re-install spring.

You must be using a K&N because I can't seem to remove the inner screen.

There's a screw clamp that holds the stock inner filter to the airfilter box. Loosen the screw and the clamp will become loose. Once loose, the entire stock inner filter and outer filter comes right off.

are you sure you have a Uni filter? I have had many Uni filters, on many bikes, and all of them consisted of nothing more than a foam filter with a large spring stuck inside to hold its shape. I had a Uni carb mount mount on my DS, never had the Uni airbox filter for this bike, so maybe yours is different, but it shoudln't be because any foam filter that can't be squeezed isn't worth having.

but regardless, just blot the excess oil off and out with some rags. you cannot hurt anything overoiling, no worries, just makes mess is all.

Yes, it is a UNI. It is a two stage foam. The outer layer comes right off but the inner layer seems permenantly attached to the metal frame of the filter. One of my questions was does the oil hurt the engine at all because I had oil in the boot that goes from the filter to the carb.

How do you oil your filter then and get the excess out?
