I't seems like everytime I race at the dunes someone gets some funny starts. This weekend there was a guy who would hold back and roll up at the last minute and get a rolling start. He was on a YZF and I was trying to judge how fast it was. When he had to line up and take a real start we would tie. Jumping the start can get you anywhere from 1 to 1 1/2 bike lengths. Last time I was at the coast a guy on a Canondale would just turn his head toward you and leave without looking forward. Kind of hard to explain but it was a very strange start that always left you playing catch up. If you pulled the same on him he got mad or would pull off and quit. Is there a name for this like an Enron start or jumpstart Johnny?
At FSW2 it was on the honor system. My friend big Doug jumped the start repeatedly and when he was confronted he just smiled at everybody and said, oh come on you all know I would have won anyway! I thought they were going to beat him up!
Does anyone have any stories about start jumpers?

I FREEKING HATE THAT! I have had this happen to me several times with guys rolling the start, If they pull that I just sit there and let them go.

when returning back to the starting line after a race I ride over the start line from the other way and come back and use my tracks as a take off track (less resistance, no bumps) seems to give me a bit of an edge, but I still barely ever win

YEP! I know those kinda people...Doug was in the bolt on class and rides a DS, right? Marbelous has a buddy like that that rides a YZF and frequents Dumont regularly...he doesn't make many friends with that tactic.
