piston ring gap - anyone know?

Default piston ring gap - anyone know?

what is the piston ring gap for a cp 11.5:1 piston. i just recived mine in the mail today and called woods and was told the rings are not gapped.

Gosh, I don't remember from when I did mine but I want to say it was .002 but that seems small.. Call RW they will tell ya right away.

you might want to call gary at tvi also thee is some thought on this right now about blow by, if you go to big to much pressure gets by.

If it's a JE piston, remember their recommendations are based on "per inch of bore".

I think it is .004 per inch, so set it at .016

As correctly stated earlier the ring gap should be a percentage of the bore (eg."think it is .004 per inch, so set it at .016" suggestion above would assume a 4" bore) and should also be specified by the piston mfg to the rings supplied with the piston.

Remember
too much gap = lost comp and blow by
too little gap= no room for expansion and engine failure.

I have seen various debates on ring gap and all the changes needed for different set ups. Nitros, turbo, blown engines, very high rpm and stock comp engines all have diff needs.
