There are two plugs and the chain is, IMO, real easy to adjust. The main adjustment that you'll have is that on the DS you'll have to hold on alot tighter or when you hit the throttle she might shoot right out from under you instead of over on top of you. When you change the oil or if you have someone else do it for you be sure you or they remove the oil line on the bottom of the oil tank in the front of the machine & there is a metal screen filter in there which needs to be cleaned to prevent oil starvation. If this isn't cleaned, eventually this could be a BIG problem. Other than that, from everything I hear your 2004 Baja X will be lighter, smaller, and faster than all previous models as shipped from the factory. (That sounded a lot like the six million dollar man opening!)

Oh, and congratulations on trading up to the best machine on the market, I'm sure you'll enjoy many hours of trouble free riding with the machine that will even often pick up where you leave off. There are countless stories of people who have 'accidentally' done something really stupid & their DS took nearly no damage at all. I've even got one of those stories - I was riding with some guys at Dumont Sand Dunes in CA (My first time there, and I didn't sleep well the night before) and I followed another guy straight off of a 12-16' dune that went straight down! We both landed nose first & my 2001 DS650 came out with very minor injuries. I was able to ride the rest of the day no problems. I figure most other machines would not have fared so well, though I don't plan to run any other machines off of cliffs so I wont be the one to find out, either!

oil change is easy, spark plugs( plural) is great. the chain is great,be sure to run it with the 7/8 slack while on the quad, seems a lot go 7/8 no rider and then that thing is real tight when riding. might want to keep us informed on how it does it has some changes as you know that we can't really say how they are.

Now Chris, you didn't tell the whole story. Though I feel the 04 X is a fine machine and could very well be the
best machine on the market
the person you were following was also riding a new Baja at the time and he bent a shift fork from that fall.

Congrats on the new quad.

wshrdskin...no you're obviously not telling the whole story either cause even a noob knows that they're INside the engine (shift-forks) and ya can't bend 'em in a head-on with the groundLOL! So com'on, Paul Harvey, let's hear the rest of the story...LOLOL

Dave,

I'd actually typed it out, but it took so damn long to try and explain it I figured it'd look more like I was babbling & I didn't figure people want to read that. I was also thinking of making a friendly jab at Gary since he hasn't gone out riding (that I know of) since then either - at leave I haven't seen him anyhow & he only lives 30 minutes from me.

I think the reason he bent the shift fork was his foot smacked the shift lever when he hit, at least that was my take on it. I think since then he has re-mounted the level to better suit his riding style, though I'm SURE he'll NEVER do that on purpose again!

I also left out the part about how I had to duct tape my light together so I could still use it since my helmet smacked the top of it so hard it got kinda busted up. I'd have to give kudos to the Duct tape companies since it's been a year and the duct tape is holding up just fine! (I figure at some point I might buy a new 2004 light or buy someone's old 2000-2003 light that they replaced with an '04.

I also finally got a new helmet a couple of weeks ago at the Chapparal parking lot sale. it was an: O'Neal SL-814 HELMET - LaRocco XLarge $279.95. (This is a price I found for it on the web.) I Paid $115 for it.

Do you Inland Empire guys ever go to the sale? I also got a nice gear bag from Bell for $30. All kindsa good deals if you look around a little - that and you can barter which is cool to get a couple of extra bucks off.

I was just talking a little smack...sorry, couldn't hep my self Dave

I can imagine that was nerve racking moment for you guys....Gary? That wouldn't be bombastic would it?

Meg and I were at LS (last time home) playing cat and mouse and I led us off a 10' drop going 30-35 mph. Scared me twice!! I hit pretty hard then had just enough time to watch my kid do the same thing...if she would have been on her Blaster it would have been ugly! That happened in the first 15 minutes of riding on a 2 day trip and that drop off hadn't been there the last time...
