Default IMS tank & aftermarket carbs.....

I have an IMS tank and have found out the hard way that both the Lectron 44 and TM 45 mandate that you use the tank spacers to allow clearance for the cable. The IMS tank was designed to eliminate the spacers. The Lectron was so bad I had to sell it & go with the Mikuni. My question is how many of you with the IMS tank have figured out a way to get either of these two carbs to fit without the spacers? I was able to cut the spacers in half with the Mikuni but I still have this awful gap where the seat & tank meet.

I had to add 1/2 inch spacers to get my Edelbrock to work. If I take the adjustment tool off I due not need any.

Pretty much sucks to have to live with the unsightly gap between the seat & tank though, huh?

Well i seen your post the other day but choose to remain silent. Until i was done with my instalation i installed dual 44's on my ds. And bajapilot installed a single 44 on his with a stock tank his came out sweet no spacers required no modes to anything it mounted like it belonged there!!! my IMS did require 3/8ths spacers but there is no unsightly gaps here both installs went great !!!!

AZsand,

What intake manifold are you using for the dual 44's? I heard the dual 39's are a tight fit in the RWR dual intake. I plan to EFI my DS and i have a set of dual 42mm Throttle bodies that i would like to use. I don't think they will fit in the RWR manifold that i'm getting(48mm OD on the TB's). I did get a pair of 38mm TB's(44mm OD) that may work, but i would rather use the 42mm TB's(easier to make work than the 38's i have).

Put your intake in water and boil it for a few minutes and then with gloves on put t on your throttlebodies then let it cool off and set over night and whala it will stay the right size. we did this with kmdunners and mine !! it works good!!

I would have never thought of that!

Thanks!

Do ya think dual 42mm TB's will be too big for a stk bore and stroke?(Ported head, slightly larger valves, bigger cams, 11.5 CR)

I'll be able to tune the accel shot based on TPS, so there sould'nt be an issue with a bog or the like. Just wondering if dual 42's would be over kill for my setup...
