did they change the rev limiter on the baja x

I am almost 100% sure that the rev limiter is the same as the '03 baja. The reason you hit 8000 on the tach may be because it is just slightly out of calibration.

There are official differences between the Baja, BajaX and Viper Red CDIs; they use the same CDI. Officially they are all supposed to be set at 8000 RPM. Variations are possible with the CDI and the tach to measure the RPMs.

My '02 Baja (for sale) seems to hit the limiter well before my X....Fact is, the X just smokes it....

The rev limiter didn't change, the tach did. When I broke the neddle in half on my factory tach (03 baja), my dealer replaced it with an updated tach. I believe the new tach is coming in 04 models. However, it reads high. With my factory tach the neddle would hit 7900 at the same time it hit the rev limiter, but the new tach reads 8200-8300 rpm when it hits the rev limiter. Im on my second of the new tachs and both were reading high.
