Man in this world today, it is either 'kill or be killed', 'play or be played', 'Screw or be screwed<---I should tell my wife this one LMAO' (ahhh, nothing wrong with a little editorial humor), But seriously, this day in age it is survival of the fittest...... Man, tell your buddy to reverse the roles----if he woulda been driving the Cop cap..........
1) He woulda stopped.
2) If he woulda ran, the other guy woulda took him to the cleaners...
3) it is not about being the nice guy any more, there are corporations being sued for millions every day, $hit, the one I work for just got sued for 98 MILLION............!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I used to work for the ones doing the suing as well!! I got really hurt at work once, and everyone told me to capitalize, I decided to play the good role, anyway a year later and a day later---> I was looking for a job!!!!!
So therefore, if I had to do it all over again, I would be sitting significantly more wealthy today.........
ANOTHER POINT TO BRING TO HIS ATTENTION--------------------------------------------------------------
---->>>>>>>>>>>Nic e guys always finish last<<<<<<<<<<--------------------------- Join the rest of America and tell him to go and get ready to manipulate the system and get ready to get a few nice top of the line decked out quads and pay off all his bills and just ride bikes for the rest of his life.........

I'm not so suprized by what happened as I am appalled...but I've always said anyone can be a cop even criminal minded and immoral individuals...case in point! If your friend is an "good" citizen then it his obligation as a friend to the rest of us to do something here. I know it's not everyones MO to be confrontational but what if that had been his kid? It might be his or mine next time! And besides doesn't it make him SICK that this hypocrit is out there "protecting" people? Laws are more about generating revenue these days and it's criminal the way society has been put out to graze (dumbed down) and lead to slaughter (taxed, penalized, etc) by the system. Sueing is the not the answer...might just get your favorite riding area CLOSED in fact, but I wouldn't let this go until that particular officer of the law was no longer empowered!!! JMO...

If in fact this was a police officer, call their internal affairs department to file a formal complaint.
I would contact your attorney and file suit against the officer and the city.
They have plenty of insurance to cover events such as this.

This is really messed up. I don't think the guy should go suing for $98 million, but there is definately something owed here. Accidents happen, but to go and leave the scene was a major #$%& up.
If nothing else, where are the CONSEQUENCES for the officer that hit him? Last I heard, a regular citizen (which cops are supposed to be) that committed a hit-and-run would probably end up in the slammer, at least for a little while. Maybe different rules apply offroad, but the officer went and made a bad situation much worse by leaving the scene. We, as riders, can't let people get away with that kind of crap. Especially not the people that are supposed to be there to protect!
Edit: I thought I was done, but this has me pretty worked up.
This is a story that should not be confined to the forum, it needs to be in the papers. Write to the Argus or something. There are a lot of people out there in Oregon (and other close states) that frequent Sandlake and would take an interest. I don't think many of them would stand for police who think they're above the law, whether they dune or not.
I used to run from the cops to avoid sound violations, but now I might run to avoid being run over!
OK, I think I'm done now, if anyone has read this far.

Wow, i read the article (in french).
Here is a brief of what it says.
A guy riding a quad with a passenger was riding down a highway (to get to a trail), not doing any stunts or whatever. A police cruiser coming from the other direction, cuts across the median into the opposing traffic lane. Right into the quad..... The passenger was ejected over 75 feet and the driver was severely injured. The passenger died later that night.
Cutting across into the path of quads is the police's way to try to stop quads in that region.
It doesn't say what happened to the officer involved, but I sure hope he was castrated with a broken beer bottle.

After reading this thread I understand why society is screwed up.....everyone wants something for nothing. If the guy was unhurt (although he should get himself checked out) he should not be expecting too cash in. Eat a burger and wamma sue someone....be a dumba$$ and spill coffee on your lap and wanna sue.... The cop should be prosecuted too the fullest extent of the law and loose her job.......I would at least see too that if I was the victom. Keep us posted ironrod. Later gents.

Agreed, suing for large sums of cash is not the answer because we the tax paying public have to foot the bill. I absolutley think he should be entitled to any reasonable compensation, i.e. have his quad completely fixed or replaced, any medical or time off work....things of that nature he certainly deserves. More importantly though is that the cop be prosecuted just like anyone of use non-law enforcement would be. No, actually I think the cop should be prosecuted more stearnly because it is her job to protect and to serve "use the public" and she has more responsibility to uphold the law. There are good cops and there are bad cops....that is one very bad cop and she needs to be removed from here position of authority before she seriously injures or kills someone.
