KawasakiKid, As I said, 4-wheel ATV used the .160 douglas 10x9 rear rims with the 21x12x10 sand skate I. My opinion on mounting 12" tires on a 9" wide rim is 4-wheel ATV did it!

FYI: Stock rear rims: 9x9
Stock rear tires: 20x11x9
Stock front rims: 10x6
Stock front tires: 21x7x10

Notice that the rim width is always a few inches narrower than the "standard" tire widths i.e. 11" or 12". The actual tires widths are usually a little less than the "standard" tire widths i.e. 10.5" or 11.5".

I didn't think 22" tires was that big of deal, but there are clearance issues?? I run 22's on my Mojave with ease.

Hey Ang, did you have to modify the metal wire loop (that supports the black plastic behind the foot peg to the fender) to fit those 22's on there???

KawasakiKid- I have not had a clearance problem and they have been on since april.I am a big guy and ride hard. the rims are douglas .160's 10x9
the tires sand skat edge 10 paddle 22x11x10
I don't know if they still sell that size but they were left over from my banshee days, and that is the only reason I tried them.
(sometimes I miss my screaming 2 stroke)

The Mojave is a totally different animal. The DS has more wheel travel in back, plus it has that funky foot guard that goes from the foot pegs to the fenders. That guard is shaped in such a way as to interfere with larger tires when you compress the suspension, which can damage your fenders.

I do feel that out of all the heavy-duty components on the DS, they did fall short on the foot guards. The metal wire frame that holds it together is too flimsy, in my opinion. I don't like thinking about what will happen to my foot and leg if this thing fails on a hard landing. :-/

Thanks for the info Ang, I ordered the exact same tires yesterday...Skat Trak Edge 22x11x10 and I'll be ordering my Douglas 10x9 .160 rims today. Thanks for the info!

CRTLeech, in regards to my post regarding the mojave, I have the '87 which doesn't have the guard behind the peg. Also, it was directed toward a 22" tire in general. Generalizing that a 22" tall tire should fit most ATV's. Sorry bout that. Just wanted to clear my previous post up a tad.

I have 20x10x10 9 paddle haulers and don't feel they are the optimum tire for the DS650 for sand drags. I think I will sell the tires and buy a wider tire for more floatation. Also, the height of these haulers runs way shorter than 20". I want a taller tire to get more ground clearance and better acceleration. The number of paddles I went with might be too many for sand drags, because I can bog in 4th and 5th gear - not enough power to keep the wheel speed up. I have noticed that the tires can dig a little at takeoff. I think the extra weight of the DS is contributing to the problem. I am 170 lbs and have a 38 tooth rear sprocket. I have a 17 tooth front sprocket I will be installing also.
