Dune tires
#1
Is anyone running front dune tires on there DS? I am looking into getting a set and would like to know how they work. I want somthing that will help with the darting and the bike diging in on turns. I was thinking on a set of mohawks or dunetrackers. What do you guys think?

Although I've never used them, I like the Mohawk's. I plan on ordering my rear V-paddles shortly (Kenda Trekkers, they get the job done and very affordable), but until I actually try the bike out I won't consider putting front sand tires on.

I do have a question for everyone... I'm completely stuck as to which rear dune tires to buy! Everytime I make a decision, those particular tires are out of stock.
I was hoping for Kenda Trekkers V paddle 20x12x9
I planned on buying 10x9 .160 rims from Douglas, however some people are telling me the 2" overlap is too much. I think different though, especially for sand tires. I don't think it'll pose a problem.
My DS is completely stock and I'm a rather large person. Currently I don't have a problem hooking up with the stock DS tires. I wanted to get a wide sand tire and was afraid of getting 22 inchers but I'm afraid with my weight the quad might bog??
How bout some suggestions and/or your current setup(s) PLEASE??
Remember 10x9 is the largest rim I can find so far, if you know of any others, post that as well.
Thanks!

KAWASAKIKID-The 22" paddles work fine I am 6'1" 270# I couldn't get douglas .190's back in march so I got the 10x9 160's.My bike is all stock also and first gear is more usable, but still goes away fast. The edge paddles are a vee'd design
and the take off is straight up and down. Iguess my weight gives me downforce???

KawasakiKid, In the May 2000 issue of 4-wheel ATV action, there is a DS650 running the Ron Wood Stage 1 kit. It has the douglas blue label 10" rims front and rear. The rear is a 21x12x10 sand tires unlimited sand skate I(competion grooved). The front is a 22x8x10 sand tires unlimited razorback. The larger tires make the DS look mean. The front fenders were removed. The rear fenders may have minor clearance issues, but it depends on each tires actual height.

I have 20X10X10 8 paddle haulers from Rocky mountain ATV they hook up great and the DS has more than enough power to turn them. They also have the douglas blue lable rims in 10X10. It takes about 2 to 3 weeks to get them due to demand. later

I can't believe I'm such a dumb ***.
Ok, in regards to tires 22x12x10 = (22)tire height (12)tire width and (10)inner tire dia. or rim dia. needed.
Now then, when talking about rims....when you say 10x9 (10)rim dia.? and (9)rim width???
Why the heck did they make that bass ackwards from the tire dims!?
I thought figuring out automotive tire sizes were difficult! Sheesh.. :P

One of the magazines told of a fix for running 22" tires in back. You remove the wire support for the black plastic fender wells and bend them in a manner as to move them away from the tire. You don't need to bend them much, an inch maybe? Then you can re-attach to the fenders and footpegs.
I have not tried this, so don't bite my head off if it doesn't work, but this is what I have read.
The magazines tend to be able to do things that don't typically happen for regular people, like get a Ron Woods kit to work properly! :-)
Good luck,
