well i am running the dynojet kit on mine and I have either the 190 or 195 I just know I went with the biggest.. at the time I had the custom end cap and the K&N filter and it ran fine with or without the lid.. i even took the filter all the way off that mad a couple passes that the track and it ran even faster.. I dont think you over jetted... my cousins baja does the same thing... he has fouled plugs twice trying to start it and when he took his lid off the air box it poped and backfired real bad.. but just from working on cars I would think that the poping when the lid is off would be a lean condition... because you are introducing more air into the mix and it starts poping.. but that would not explain the fouled plugs.. and at least in his case when you foul a plug you KNOW IT.... once his fouled it would not start at all we pulled them out and dryed them off cleaned them put them back in and still would not fire.. we went and got new plugs and it fired right up.

it runs great either way until it gets warm now? i just dont know if maybe it fouled one of the plugs i dont get why they have 2 if i knew the way it worked a little i could almost figure it out im just thinking maybe that what it did and thats why i have gas in the oil i hope it didnt screw something up i only rode it a little while then when it started running like crap i shut her down. ill mess with it i cant imagine it being anything to serious but we`ll see i did think it ran better with no lid also it was raing today maybe i got water in the gas i dont know somethings up with it

I forgot on my wifes DS I have the dyno jet kit with the 190 and with the lid on it would run way rich. So you might have fouled the plugs. It will run with one fireing but only at low to mid RPM's cause it can't burn all the fuel at higher RPM's without both. BUT that is jmop

I am going to try a 185 or more than likely a 180 in hers but I have a 50 idle jet in it and will be running the lid on. If you decide to leave the lid off the setup you have now should be fine.
