need overheating help bad!!

ok I washed my ds650 today and when I was done I took it out for a ride... about a half mile down the road and back... I pull it in the garage and the damn overheating light is on (real dim but on) so I shut it off and turn the key back to ON and the fan does not come on!!! but my question is should it even need the fan when I am just rideing like that?? I had a pretty good speed going the whole time so it was getting plenty of cool air... if the thermostat goes bad will that make it not trigger the fan to come on also or is the temp sensor mounted to the block?? I know the block was very hot to the toutch but still no fan... could I have knocked something loose with the pressure washer... or is my thermostat more than likely bad??

I highly doubt it is overheating, whats your coolant level? Make sure there is some in your radiator and res. If the fan did not come on, then you are prolly not over heating unless there is something wrong with your fan and things related. I am pritty sure the fan would come on before the light would.... how dim is the light? In the dark is it really noticable? It could just be a problem with your warning lite

ok I will search but I just dont want to hurt it by running it... the light was real dim and would get a lil brighter when i reved it... the I toutched the block head and topend and it was realy hot to the toutch..

Well, being hot to the touch is normal, or at least for my rappy it is. How are your coolant levels, no coolant would cause it to overheat fast

yea.... lol coolant level is fine.. I rode all day saturday and it was fine.. the fan was on alot but that is normal... I am just stumped becuse like I said it should not even need the fan riding at higher speeds down a flat road..

BTW how does your spark plug look, I was just thinking if you were running a hair lean on your jets in summer the cold air may throw your air fuel mixture out of whack and cause the quad to run hotter? Just a though Remember white = bad

Just to be safe CHECK your oil res filter, when that gets clogged the red light starts to come on and if you ride it your bottom end will be toast and youll see gold flakes when draining oil out of bottom drain plug.

check the fuse mounted under your seat. you might have gotten enough water across the temp switch that it was able to blow the fuse. it should be on the right side if you are standing on the brake lever side facing back. it is in a small water tight holder right beside the air box. if that isn't it pull the wires off the temp switch and touch them together with the key on. the fan should come on. if not and the fuse is good then it will probably be your fan motor, there was a problem with some of the early ones but mine has never went out. if you pull the wires off the temp switch be sure to put some silicon on them after you reconnect them to keep woter off the connections. hope this helps!
