Default head pipe mounting problem

On my 2003 Baja, I had trouble with a clearance problem that sounds similar to this. One nut in particular was difficult to remove, so I knew re-installation would be even more of a pain. I tried to re-install it without modification but there just wasn't enough room & I wasn't about to start denting the pipe for the nut. I ground off ever so slightly a little of the flange at a time until I could force the nut onto the bolt & I ended up with a good amount of the flange still in place as well.

On my 2001 Ds, there were no clearance problems at all - it was tight but it all fit!
this is what I am going to do. I noticed these nuts are lock type as well as flanged. so I am going to do what it takes to use the stock ones. tried many times and many different ways to install. with the pipe positioned so the smallest part of the pipe is at the end of the stud there is just not enough room.

Time for new nuts the ones I got with the ron wood pipe are 11 mm the stovk ones on my 2000 ds are 12mm. the 11 should work if you can find some.

Default head pipe mounting problem

thanks for the help. the system is fully installed. I had to grind off aproximatly 1/32" all the way around every nut. one of them still hit the outside of the nut ridges as I turned it. all the way on. I think I will try different nuts next time as billds650 sugested.
