thinking about a ds650
I've ridden with guys on V700's and theyre nice for fast trail rides. I prefer the manual transmission and the acceleration on my DS is almost scary but the Vforce rides a bit smoother.
I'm a heavy guy (250 or so) and I love the width and length of the old DS more than the newer models but that's just me. I'm cruising up hills sitting up that guys on Z400's have to lean over the handlebars for.
I'd say it boils down to what you want. If you want easy speed without much work the Vforce is probably better. But if you just want to fly go with the DS. The only machine that has really smoked me in the drags was a modified Quadzilla, and that guy claimed it had over 75hp and weighed about 390 soaking wet!

Gads, I am on my third DS!
I just keep coming back for more. IT is not a flyweight motocrosser, it's a big desert sled. The stability, handling, power, suspension are all right where I want them. I had a '01, which needed lots of mods to make it manageble, like upper a-arms, works shocks, cdi. Then an -02 Baja, which was pretty good stock,,,but then came the X, lighter, tricker, faster, and not orange. I loved the yellow '01, but the orange Baja had that " only a mother could love" look.
My son had a Raptor and now rides a Z-400. We are both much happier. I never liked the Raptor, freakin motor with handlebars on it, and his Z is really nice in the tight stuff, and certainly jumps and wheelies better, but I smoke him bad when it comes to the fast sandwashes and fireroads. Different strokes...
