fast440, how old are you? the 650 is more than a extremely comfortable quad to ride, plus all the other advantages.

Stock for Stock, the YFZ will smoke a DS.
That is very not true. The YFZ will come out of the hole a little faster but the DS's mighty torque will walk away afterwards. The new Baja X's smoke the YFZs bad, I heard.

And if I was you, I'd get the new 2004 Baja's... they are supposedly faster and a little lighter than the older DS's.

But again, a YFZ will not smoke a DS, stock for stock. Especially not a Baja X.

hmm i own a YFZ and i can tell you first hand its really not a comfortable bike to cruise on, its more of a hardcore riding bike.....i have to stand 95+% of the time just because it feels better that way because thats what it was made for. the yfz is an AWESOME hill racing/climbing bike etc but for the dunes it kinda sucks IMO, i have rode witha DS650 BAJA a few times in dunes and they are just an awesome cruising bike, as for a race, stock for stock YFZ will eat a DS but you can do simple stuff to the DS to make it a better bike, esp if you are big because i am 5'7 105lbs and i find the yfz even feeling low to me compared to riding the raptor. its not a casual riding bike IMO its something you get on to haul *** and show off, not to take a stroll through the woods/desert whatever.
but between TRX and YFZ i would go YFZ all the way, electric start, and NO RACING CLUTCH is better, the YFZ does have a VERY small tank though.
but between DS650 and TRX i would go 650 all the way esp since your big.

Its really up to what you want to do.
Im 6'3" and 215lbs. I just got my DS about 1 month ago.
What a difference the size makes. Its so much more comfortable
than the Z400 I had. Its heavy! but for dune riding...........
its the best I have been on so far. From what I can tell, the Honda isnt to far off from the Y.
We have 2 Y's in the group I go with.
Stock for Stock they are not faster......... I dont care what anyone says,
Nobody in our group is a pro rider, but they cant beat me (and the DS and I are both overweight hahahaha).
Seriously, The Y is setup as a race bike. I tried to set the suspension up for me and just couldnt get it to
do anything for me. Its small and I didnt like the handling. Motor is strong, but I think
the DS just has more pull to it.

Its all personal opinion.
Try to find the opportunity to ride them both in the conditions you plan
on using it in most. Only you can decide what best for you.

Good luck

thanks guys great info! I am a pretty big guy at 6'2 215lbs so I am kinda leaning toward the DS. I just put a deposit yesterday on a 450r only to assure that I would at least have a chance to get one this year. I think its going to come down to me being able to ride both, even if it is just in the parking lot so I can get a feel as to whether the 450 is going to feel too small. If it does than I'll end u on the DS. Again, thanks for the help

"I heard" My friend owns one. I've raced it, I've ridden it. you guys can say and think what you want, but the YFZ is faster. I own a DS and I'd love to tell you that it's faster, but that is not my experience.

Also, nothing gets out the hole better than a DS. Huge torque, massive 4-stroke traction (8-paddle 22x11x10 Edges). I beat everyone to the first whoop, after that it's power-to-weight and the DS has a lot of weight to overcome.
