trinity stage 4 spark arrestor???
#1
I finally got my stage 4 exhaust Ive been waiting for since July , the only thing is they sent me two of the same head pipes now I am waiting for the right head pipe to come in. The one thing I noticed was that their is know spark arrestor in the muffler which I might need to ride at some places in Jersey. Is their a way to make one or use something in its place so I can ride at these places? Also they gave me a 190 jet to run in the carb what kind of screws do I need to buy to put the carb back together and what kind of adjustments are commonly made when using this jet? thanks

toof, not sure about the spark arrestor as i don't have one for my trinity either, but i can tell you that 190 jet is waaaaaaaaayyyyy off. try using about a 172.5 to 175. should work alot better for you

Liz: I got the same bike 2003 DS650-Baja. Okay, I had problems too with Trinty sending me the wrong stuff. Call Trinty and ask to speak to Randy. He's the only person that can help you. Don't tell him you talked to me. When I ordered my pipe they sent me a Trinity non-USFS approved screen. That won't cut it. Call him and tell him you want the "SUPER TRAP" spark arrestor and ask for 18 discs. The Super Trap spark arrestor costs $59.95. You might have to buy 6 more discs (for $19.95) to get the 18. If you add the additional discs you'll need longer stainless steel alllen head screws to add the extra discs. When you install the longer allen screws to install the 18 Super Trap discs make sure you Loctite these screws in place. Becareful when installing the Super Trap discs that you don't tighten them TOO MUCH or you'll collapse the discs. Tighten them up but not too tight.
Liz, this Trinty's Mistake so ask them to send you a UPS "CAll Tag" that is a tag that they issue to ups and UPS will come to your door and pick up the pipe from your door. They made the mistake, why should pay the shipping on they're mistake! All you'll have to do is re-pack the items.
Before you install the Pipe look and feel inside the head pipe and the muffler pipe for welding slag and sharp or bubbles of weld. These should be removed with a Dremel and a stone and or a carbide cutter. Use a FLASH LITE to see these.Skmooth these defects out before you install the pipe. Make sure you flush out all the grinding grit and the metal shavings before you install the pipe. Next, see if they included the "Pipe Shield" screw tabs so the stock exhaust protector can be installed to keep you from burning your legs on the Exhaust. They forgot these on my head pipes and I had to improvise and add them. If you don't use the shield you'll fry your legs. Becareful!
Next, See if the second pipe after the head pipe will fit into the muffler end. Mine wouldn't fit. Next, the muffler had the perforated internal steel shield hanging out the end of the muffler. When I tried to shove it in more it wouldn't go. They had to send me a new muffler assembly, and the Super Trap spark arrestor. Use some blue Loctite on the (4) stainless screws they furnish you to attach the pipe to the Muffler. The next fun part is installing the big muffler to the rear grab handle.
On installing the head pipes, snug just barely tight at first. Then go ahead and install the rest of the Pipe assembly. After the rest is installed go back and tighten the head pipe bolts. After all else is installed start up the bike and run it so the pipes get real hot. Now go back and snug the head bolts. Your done!
Next remove the Carb from the Bike. It will be a ton eaiser if you do this on the bench. On the Carb fuel bowl screws.Go to your hardware that sells metric screws and get (3) 4mm X 8 or 9mm stainless screws and (1) 4mm X 11 or 12mm stainless screw. Call around and make sure you get Stainless allen screws. Take your old screws with you and get them a little longer. Be sure to get stainless Lock washers as well. If you use lock washers the screws will have to be a little longer. Now make sure you watch that one of the screws on the Carb bowel is a little longer than the rest. So you've got three the same size and (1) that is a little longer. You can then open up the fuel bowel and find your main jet and change it. I'd raise your needle one clip. Use needle nose pliers. Watch out you don't loose the sir-clip! Make sure you listen very clearly when I say raise your needle. To raise your needle you would lower the little sir-clip. Be careful you don't lower the needle. Lowering the needle leans out your fuel mixture. Raising the needle richens your mixture or gives you more fuel. Now put the needle back into the carb and re-assemble. Install your new allen head screws and washers and snug them down making sure not to strip them out.
I'd strongly suggest later on getting the Ron Wood TM45 Mukini card and manfold, and get the Accelerator pump mod on the Carb. The bike will love you more! Next the best Mod I've done is to install a set of ELKA Shocks front and rear. The bike rides like a Limo and handles like a dream. B
Good Luck and happy Turkey day!
