43 tooth sprocket. Which one?
#1
I am running 22 ITP XCT's in the rear and want to go with a 43 rear sprocket. I need to know what is the best one out there? Also should I run steel or alum, and what are the benifits of either?

Also what do you guys think of a 15 tooth front sprocket? I heard that a smaller front sprocket is hard on the chain. Also I looked on another website and I can get closer to the stock gearing with the 15-41 combo with 22's.

Just a matter of personal preference but I prefer 20's with a 17 front or 22's with stock gearing. Spreads out each gear & gives a better top speed, also hooks up better reducing wheel spin. Even with the taller gearing I find myself always looking for 6th gear. Like I said, just a matter of personal preference. 22's with a 17 sprocket is really nice but I also have the motor to pull this garing, not sure what you motor setup is...

I went down too 14/41 climb great but on long strights I was all was looking for 6th gear. I have gone to 15/40 now I due most on my duneing in 2nd and 3rd. I can stay in the gears longer befor I have to shift.

I am doing a swingarm conversion on my 04 to a 02. I already bought a new chain so I am cover on any gear selection I do. I think I am going with the 15-40 because I can't find a steel rear sprocket. everywhere I call says they only have alum, plus it's cheaper to stay with the stock rear. Thanks for all the help

If you put on 22's it has the same effect as going up one tooth in the front sprocket. If you want to go back to the stock gearing or as near it as possible it is ALOT easier to change the front sprocket down one in the front, to a 15T. Most of the drag racers I know of use a 15T with stock size tires for quicker acceleration @ 300ft. I have not heard of any ill effects from using a 15T on the chain.

maybe someone could put a link to the gear calulator on here for these guys to look at, depend on how you plan to run, on what gear with the 23" rear tires the 43 isn't so low but when i ran 20" it was like a tractor. if you are doing a set distance you should be hitting a max rpm as you cross the line. tire spin is another area to look at, it wil affect these things.
