Default JE 14:1 piston questions

Will the 14:1 piston clear my RWR A1/A2 cams. I know they are only rated at .425 and the A1 is .433. Just wondering if anyone has tried this combo, maybe a thicker gasket would make this work. I think you have to use two gaskets already.

The new 14:1 is designed clear the RW 7 cams which are .450 lift. But as with any engine build up valve pocket clearance shoud be checked.

How do you check valve pocket clearance. Do I need a special tool or does it have to be done my a mechanic, I have a micrometer and a set of feler guages, will this work.

Probably something your mechanic should do. The engine must be assembled and rolled through with modeling clay on top of the piston, then pulled apart and clearance's checked. It's two hours well spent.

My thoughts?

1) The rating is a true 14:1 with two base gaskets - no funny numbers being played here.
2) The piston was designed around the stock head - no problems
3) No need for stronger bolts - buy them if you want them - but they are not required.
4) No head gasket problems

I've been running mine for 6 months hard - no problems whatsoever - NONE!

Hey ironrod, what cams are you using, what lift and duration? Will I have any problems with the RWR A1/A2 cams .433/.406? What kind of HP gains can I expect going from 11.5:1 to the 14:1 on Alky.

Gasser....just how great of an impact on flame speed is made with this particular piston in this situation? Significant? Or something that can be overcome with an advancement of ignition timing?

p.s. 1 full season of drag racing on our 14:1/Webcam with no issues...and I think the tolerances are tighter than .080.

Would have to ask Mr. HP...

I run the 425 lift cams. Nothing bigger is recommended.
