Default Alky set too rich?

I am using Manhatten oil, 16oz recomended for a 55 gal drum, and a 4oz bottle of grape scent. I also thought of the probe being to close to the head, still in the exhaust flame, giving false readings. I was thinking of setting it back up on gas to compare the temps, that way I could see if it was just running hot on alky or if the probe was too close to the head giving false readings. I could remount the probe, but I would have to weld the hole up and then grind it out smooth on the inside with a dremel. Everyone has a different opinion about probe placement, I don't know where to drill it, and don't want a bunch of holes in my exhaust. It would be easy to fill where it is, but any further in the bend would be a pain.
