Default Week transmission

Hi
I own a ds650 2000.

Last time I rode it, my transmission was SOMETIME making a wierd noise in first gear. The feeling was like if the fist gear was missing a tooth. But it doesn't make it all the time.

I also remember than it often does it when I'm doing a U turn by spining the back wheels.

Do you know what it could be ??

thanks a lot

More than likely, its slipping on the sprocket. Check for loose chain or worn sprocket. If thats Ok, then check your bearing carrier - bad bearings make the axle loose and then the chain loose. If that looks good, consider shifting forks - If you think it is, get a second mortgage on your house - shifting fork replacement require splitting the case. The stock '00 forks sucked - the new ones are much better.

It depends on who splits your case for you and how much they charge per hour. On the average, I would say $1000-$1500 complete (parts and labor).

that really sounds more like chain adjustment than bad trans. drain the oil from the crank case look for junk stuck to magnet inside of oil plug. pull down on grab bar from behind and make sure you have about 7/8-1" slop in your chain. i know when i gear mine up the ratio will make my chain chatter against the gide roller back by the front swingarm post. ds trans are tough, unless you have been thrashing it like you don't care it would surprise us all if the trans was bad.

While your doing it, check your chain roller. The 2000's are bad to eat them up too.

Yes, Check the chain roller while you are checking everything else. It wont cause your symptoms, but it will wear your chain and will cause a lot of noise if its worn or completely gone.

Hi.

My chain roller has been change last year. I don't think that my chain is loose (I have to verify if it as 7\8 to 1 inch). If the chain was loose, would it do the same thing on higher gears ??

I drive my DS650 like a big Caddy so I didn't beat the hell out of it. I don't think that the tranmission suffered too much from my driving. And by the way, it's stock except for the K and N filter.

I will check this week-end if there's any iron pieces on the magnet of the drain plug.

Thanks
