Planning trip to Sand Mountain..

There are some spots you can drive the motorhome onto and also some really good spots to get stuck.
On the big weekends they usually have the rangers out there to sell you a pass.
The rest of the time is it self pay like a camp ground.
If you think you might go more than a few times the year pass is a good deal.
I really prefer to go on a weekday, sometimes you have the place all to yourself. (see my pics)
If anybody is able to get away on a weekday let me know.

Day use permit - Yep. I think it is about $20 for a 7-day permit or $45 for an annual pass if I remember correctly.
Camping with the motorhome is fine. Good idea to walk your path before you drive it to make sure there aren't too many areas that are too soft. With that drag Shee you will probably want to be up by the second bathroom closer to the hill (unless you have a bunch of small kids with your group then I'ld stay down closer to the highway.
You really won't want to pull out into the dune / riding area to camp. First you WILL get stuck and second, you'll just have people riding around you at WOT so, better to be in camp. Memorial will be packed so the earlier you can get there the better. If you do pull off the road and head out to the left somewhere between the bathrooms watch out for the ditch off the side of the road. The sand is real soft there and that is where most people get stuck.
Watch your speed through Fallon then keep going out of town, past the ***** house and look for a little brown sign on the right of the road. You'll turn left just before the phone booth. The entrance road is pretty washboarded and you will find the pay to camp area on the right just as you get to the camping area. Rangers are usually parked there.
Bring all the water you will need for the trip. There isn't any out there. Pit toilets but, no sinks, etc. Fuel is in town so, best to bring all you will need for the weekend. Weather will be warm so large coolers with block ice work the best for keeping things cold. Keep the cooler in the shade (this isn't Oregon weather)
