Recently me and my uncle intered a local hair scramble and we got our tails kicked in the mud. We did very well in the beginning in the open stretches but after we mud ruts we were done for. I was just wondering if anybody has tips on getting the baja through the mud. Right now we have stock otis tires, we bought blackwaters for it but they didnt seem to do much. Any info would be greatly appreciated. nicetags44@yahoo.com

 

what kind of mud is it sloppy and deep or slimey or what? I do a lot of trail riding with a lot of mud holes. Tires help a lot but wheel speed is key. what I do is get my weight over the rear or as far back as posibly. them hit the hole at a decent speed at least 25 mph in like 3rd. try to get your front tires to leave the ground just a little 1 or 2 inches is good just before you hit the hole. keep the rear wheel speed up as high as possible if the mud is loose enought you may be able to shift, But make sure the big rotax is singing like a sewing machien before you shift or the motor will fall flat on it's face. A cdi box will go a long way in the mudd dew to the added rpms!!!

 

well i'd saw find some 22" mud tires, tall lugs that are widely spaced, i have realtors and excavators, both work well in mud,

 

I think if you combine what both of these guys said (Larger tires, high rpms at the wheels) you should be a LOT better off. The extra ground clearance of 22" tires should make a big difference. Blackwaters are designed for utility quads and are very heavy, I'm not sure they're designed for a sport quad that can spin the tires like a DS.

 

my 00 ds is set up for hare scrambles. get 22" maxxis Razors or Razor II's on the back, and 23" Razors on the front. they are the absolute best all around condition tire out there. plus they are six ply(very puncture resistant) and the tallness gives you extra ground clearance. also, don't forget skid plates, radiator shrouds, nerf bars, and hand guards, just to get you started.

 

How would 4-SNOWS do??

Also people forget about the Kenda VIPER. It is a great tire for Traction and very tuff! They dont cost much either.
