Well I guess it is my turn with my first problem. I noticed the headlight was not working when I washed my bomb today, don't know when it went out never rode at night.
Is this a common problem, I purchased it in feb and it is a 1999 production date.
I only had the front housing off once in march to install a tether kill switch. I'm too sunburned and tired to mess with it now,and won't have time until this weekend (not going riding till it cools down some) any info would be appreciated.

In the first month mine went out after washing it and I noticed some moisture inside the lens. The dealer replaced the bulb and sealed up a 'hole'? in the back of the lens with silicone. It promptly burned out both high and low beam within an hour. They replaced it again and determined the 'hole' is a 'vent' and unblocked it. I have since been careful not to spray directly up under the front cowling or have removed the cowling (4 screws, esay) and put tape over it when I wash. 5 months and no problems since.
Hope this helps.

No problem with mine yet but I have an April 2000 mfg. date if that makes any difference.

All I have to say is 4 bulbs and one in the truck because the low beam is already gone. Yes it is a definite problem. I cracked my houseing and they said to get a new one, so it is on order, I do not think it will help. They like popping on me within an hour of them being on. Help me too, when you find the problem.

I think I replaced 3 bulds in the short period I owned my DS.I also tried to plug up the hole thats in the back of the headlight but the whole lens fogged up and would not go away.So I unplugged the hole and the fog went away but the bulb blew out the next time I went riding. Its just a bad design by the Canadians.Hope you guys can figure somthing out because I sure couldnt think of anything to fix the problem. If it makes you feel any better my headlights on the 400ex are still working after 2 rides (Just joking guys)Too bad my upper steering bushing is squeeking like a noisey bed and the fine people at honda did not tighten my air filter so I got to break in my engine with the filter just bouncing around in the box.Boy that made me feel real good after riding in the sand all day.Just goes to show you that all the companys have their little mishaps.Too bad it always happens to us the good guys and not people like crism101.

These are halogen bulbs, so you have to make sure that when you replace them, that you clean them off with a cloth soaked in rubbing alcohal to remove all skin oils. The oils reflect the light back into the bulb and burns it out prematurely, even in as short as 1/2 an hour!

Either that, or your voltage regulator is on the fritz.

Good luck,

I noticed my headlight was loose today. There are three nuts on one bolt that hold it in place at the bottom and one nut must have vibrated loose.
